American Kennel Club, 2024 breed rankings ↗HOW TO READ THIS
APPA and AVMA use different surveys, timing and methods. APPA’s 2026 report uses its 2025 National Pet Owners Survey, while AVMA’s figures come from a weighted online survey conducted in spring 2026. Both are useful, but they are not interchangeable measures.
AKC’s ranking measures registrations among AKC-recognized breeds. It does not count every Bulldog, mixed-breed dog or unregistered dog in the United States.
